Doxzilla Inflight: documentaries, cartoons and easy comedy for routes up to 5 hours

Doxzilla is a documentary streaming service from Next Step, streaming since January 2023. Doxzilla Inflight is a streaming VOD service that passengers watch on demand, and it helps airlines save on the budget for buying film and series content. What it is

Doxzilla Inflight is a streaming VOD service for your passengers, who choose what to watch on demand. It has three groups of programmes: Doxzilla documentaries, Doxzilla Cartoon, and Doxzilla Gag, easy comedy.

The service reaches your aircraft in one of two ways, set out below: added to the inflight system you already use, or provided through Next Step Wireless IFE. Either way you sign one contract, with Next Step.

Key points
  • A streaming VOD service of documentaries, cartoons and easy comedy, watched on demand
  • Helps airlines save on the budget for buying film and series content
  • Sized for routes up to 5 hours
  • Added to your existing system, or carried on Next Step Wireless IFE
  • One contract, signed with Next Step

Three groups of programmes, sized for the route

Doxzilla documentaries. They come in half-hour and one-hour formats, about 25 to 50 minutes each. Made by Next Step Studios and Doxzilla.

Doxzilla Cartoon. Short cartoon episodes, easy to start and easy to stop.

Doxzilla Gag. Easy comedy in short clips. We choose titles that work without much talk, or that carry subtitles, so they travel across languages.

On shorter routes, passengers have no time for a 90-minute film. Documentaries of about 25 to 50 minutes, Doxzilla Cartoon and Doxzilla Gag fit the time they have. The three groups run to different lengths, so a passenger can pick what fits the time left.

Key points
  • Doxzilla documentaries: half-hour and one-hour formats, about 25 to 50 minutes each
  • Doxzilla Cartoon: short episodes
  • Doxzilla Gag: easy comedy in short clips
  • Each passenger picks what fits the time left

How it reaches your passengers

Into your existing system. We provide the Doxzilla service into the inflight entertainment system you already use, in the formats your system accepts. We agree the formats and the delivery steps with you and your system provider, system by system. We put no server of ours and no installation of ours on your aircraft.

With Next Step Wireless IFE. If you do not yet have a system, Next Step Wireless IFE carries the service to passengers' own phones, tablets or laptops over the cabin wireless network, so your aircraft needs no seatback screens. The server on board and the passenger screens come from BFBS, our technology partner. On the passenger's screen, the name they see is Doxzilla.

Key points
  • Into your existing system, in the formats it accepts, agreed system by system
  • With Next Step Wireless IFE, for airlines without a system yet
  • Either way, one contract with Next Step

With Next Step Wireless IFE, from boarding to landing

  1. Connect

On boarding, the passenger connects a phone or tablet to the cabin wireless network, named for your airline.

  2. Open

The Doxzilla welcome screen opens on their device and shows the programmes for the flight.

  3. Watch

The passenger chooses a documentary, a cartoon or a comedy clip and watches it on their own device, at their own pace. The programmes are served from the server on board.

  4. Arrive

By the time the flight lands, the passenger has watched what they chose, in lengths that fitted the route.

What your airline does, and what we do

  • Your airline

Chooses the aircraft and the routes. Your engineering and safety teams review the system and sign off on onboard use, under your own policy and your regulator's rules. Your crew briefs passengers. Your content team sets the cycle and gives us your content policy. If the service goes into your existing system, your system provider joins us to agree the formats.

  • BFBS

Our technology partner from the United Kingdom. With Next Step Wireless IFE, BFBS is responsible for the server on board and for the passenger UX/UI, the screens and the way passengers use them.

  • Next Step

Signs the contract with you and is your single point of contact. Provides the Doxzilla service through Next Step CSP, clears rights and formats files before delivery, and works with your teams from the opening meeting to delivery.

BFBS is a media organisation and military charity. It first broadcast from Algiers in 1943, has served British forces for more than 80 years, and runs entertainment for service personnel aboard ships, aircraft and submarines. A submarine is an environment that demands harder technology. BFBS supplies the onboard server and the passenger screen for Next Step Wireless IFE, and every aircraft installation needs the approval of the airline and its aviation authority. Learn who BFBS is

What your airline gets

A service sized to your routes, which helps your airline save on the budget for buying film and series content. It can be added to the system you already have, agreed system by system. One contract and one company to call, from content through delivery. Your content team can refresh the programmes on its own cycle.

If your airline wants music or a music channel, we can add it for you through Next Step CSP.

We check each title against your content policy for culture, religion and taste in each market, and prepare a content note per title to your list.

Audio, subtitles and the language of the passenger screen are tailored to your airline, and agreed per route and per title. Today's catalogue has Thai and English audio. Other languages are produced on request.

We plan to add anonymised viewing reports, so your team can plan the next cycle from what passengers chose. We are working out the details with BFBS.

  • A service sized to your routes
  • Helps your airline save on the budget for buying film and series content
  • Added to the system you already use
  • One contract, one company to call
  • Each title checked against your content policy
  • Anonymised viewing reports (we are building these)

What your airline gets from the Doxzilla name

  • We choose documentaries to suit your passengers

Our team picks each title for your routes and your passengers, and checks it against your content policy before it goes on your schedule. Available today for Doxzilla documentaries. A written programme plan for your routes is a plan.

  • One named service, one standard

Every title is cleared for your territory before delivery. Available today for Doxzilla documentaries. Doxzilla Cartoon and Doxzilla Gag are a plan.

  • A name to point to

We supply the service name, artwork and a label for the screen, for your own promotion. When you open a new route, we can make a route documentary with you. This is a plan.

  • One supplier, one contract

Next Step signs with you, clears the rights and formats the files, so your team deals with one company. Available today.

Your name on the service

By default the service is shown as Doxzilla, with your airline's name after it. The way the service carries your brand is agreed with you.

Five steps, from a viewing to the full system

  1. Step 0. See a sample

We arrange a viewing of the Doxzilla service on a demonstration unit, with a programme plan for your routes. It happens on a phone or tablet, with no work on your aircraft.

  2. Step 1. Add the service to your system

We suggest starting here. We provide the Doxzilla service into the inflight entertainment system you already use, in the formats your system accepts, agreed with you and your system provider, system by system. No server and no installation of ours on your aircraft.

  3. Step 2. A 3-month pilot

Doxzilla Inflight on selected routes for 3 months. We agree with you what to measure. Your teams review and sign off on onboard use.

  4. Step 3. Rollout across the fleet

After the pilot, Doxzilla Inflight across the fleet you choose.

  5. Step 4. Your own wireless system

For airlines that do not yet have a wireless system: Next Step Wireless IFE, with the Doxzilla service and content from Next Step CSP or, on request, from your own CSP.

Five questions airlines ask us

  • Who approves the system on our aircraft, and who is responsible?

Your engineering and safety teams review the system and sign off on onboard use, under your policy and your regulator's rules. We send a technical pack on request, prepared with BFBS for your aircraft types, and we work with your teams through the process. Next Step is your single point of contact. With Next Step Wireless IFE, BFBS is responsible for the server on board and the passenger UX/UI.

  • How long does installation take, and what does it involve?

If we provide the service into your existing system, we put no server of ours on your aircraft. The formats and the delivery steps are agreed with you and your system provider, system by system. For Next Step Wireless IFE, it depends on your aircraft type and fleet. The technical pack sets out the aircraft types covered, the installation steps and the time per aircraft. Request the pack and we will start from your aircraft list.

  • How many passengers can watch at once, and what if the connection drops?

With your existing system, that depends on the system. With Next Step Wireless IFE, the programmes are served from the server on board. The number of devices at once and how the system behaves if a link drops are set out in the technical pack for your aircraft types.

  • How is it priced?

Commercial terms are flexible and depend on your routes, your fleet and the kind of contract. Talk to our team.

  • Are the rights clear for our routes, and what about music and our content rules?

Rights are cleared before delivery. For each title we confirm the territory and licence window with you before it goes on your schedule. If your airline wants music or a music channel, we can add it through Next Step CSP. We check each title against your content policy for culture, religion and taste in each market, and prepare a content note per title.

About Doxzilla

We choose documentaries to suit your passengers. Doxzilla is a documentary streaming service from Next Step, a Bangkok company founded in 1988. It has been streaming since January 2023, on phones, tablets and TV. On Doxzilla's own service, every film has Thai and English audio, and there are no ad breaks. The team behind it also makes the Samrujlok channel, a documentary brand of our own. Doxzilla Inflight brings the same care to your flights: rights cleared before delivery, and one contract with Next Step.
