Inflight

Documentaries for your routes. Made in Asia. One contract.

Next Step CSP makes documentaries in Asia, matched to the routes of airlines in Asia, under one contract. Our own studio makes them. Our team works from Bangkok, in hours that overlap with yours.

Tell us which routes you fly

  • We make our own

Next Step Studios produces documentaries in house, including Thailand from Above and Wild Echoes, a four-film series in development. See them on the Studios page.

  • Bangkok, since 1988

Next Step has been based in Bangkok since 1988.

  • Programmes on board

Thainess programmes are on Thai Airways inflight entertainment.

Every kind of content, and documentaries as our strength

Next Step CSP is expert in curated content. We have long experience selecting content for television: Next Step has been in the television business since 2000, and we bring that experience to selecting content for airlines.

Most airlines need a CSP to supply many kinds of content: films, series, documentaries, music and podcasts. Next Step CSP can source the full range, including from all the major film and series distributors. If you want music or a music channel, we can add it for you through Next Step CSP.

Documentaries are where we differ from other CSPs. We built the Doxzilla streaming app ourselves, so we are expert at choosing documentaries that suit passengers. We also have a business unit that makes documentaries in this region, so we can curate documentaries by the destinations your airline flies to. If you would like a special documentary made for your airline, we can produce it too.

Your routes set the brief

Tell us where you fly. We make documentaries about the places your passengers are travelling to. Picture a flight to Chiang Mai. Passengers watch a documentary about Chiang Mai before they land.

We are building launch sets for airlines that open a new route, ready on opening day. Every set will start from your route list and be made to your brief by Next Step Studios.

One contract for all your routes

You sign with Next Step alone. One contract covers every route you fly. We clear rights for the routes and territories you fly before delivery, format every title to your system's specification, and deliver on your cycle. Your content team receives programmes ready to load.

Before delivery we check each title against your content policy for culture, religion and taste in each market, and prepare a content note per title to your list.

Our team works from Bangkok, in hours that overlap with Asian airlines. Bangkok shares a time zone with Jakarta and Hanoi, and is one hour from Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.

Our content starts in Thailand. We are growing it across ASEAN, and we plan to reach India and China.

  • One contract, signed with Next Step
  • Rights cleared before delivery
  • Formatted to your system, delivered on your cycle
  • A content note per title, to your policy list

Your passengers' languages, your calendar

Audio, subtitles and the language of the passenger screen are tailored to your airline, and agreed per route and per title. The Doxzilla catalogue has Thai and English audio today. Other languages are produced on request.

We plan to add Chinese, Hindi and languages of ASEAN, and we are planning new productions so that more languages can be added later.

For festivals we can start with Songkran and Lunar New Year. Deepavali, Ramadan and a full-year calendar are in development.

Questions airlines ask us

  • Who do we sign with, and who answers after we sign?

You sign one contract with Next Step. Next Step Studios makes the documentaries and Next Step delivers them on your cycle. You deal with Next Step alone.

  • Are rights cleared?

Yes, before delivery. For each title we confirm the territory and licence window with you before it goes on your schedule.

  • Can you work through our existing CSP?

Yes. Next Step Studios licenses documentaries through your existing CSP, so you keep your provider.

  • How do you handle our content policy?

We check each title against your policy for culture, religion and taste in each market, and prepare a content note per title to the list you give us.

  • What formats and languages do you deliver?

Files are formatted to your system's specification. Audio, subtitles and the language of the passenger screen are tailored to your airline, and agreed per route and per title. The Doxzilla catalogue has Thai and English audio today, and other languages are produced on request.

  • How is it priced?

Commercial terms are flexible and depend on your routes and the kind of contract. Talk to our team.

  • Does Next Step Wireless IFE need seatback screens or passenger devices?

It is designed for passengers' own devices, so no seatback screens are needed. If your aircraft has seatback screens, Next Step CSP documentaries can reach them through your inflight entertainment system.

  • Who approves a wireless system on our aircraft?

Your engineering and safety teams approve onboard use under your regulator's rules. We prepare the documents with you and work with your teams through the process. Details on installation are on the Next Step Wireless IFE page. BFBS is a media organisation and military charity that serves the UK Armed Forces and their families worldwide. Learn who BFBS is
