Documentaries that start with a question, from Thailand

Next Step Studios is the producer behind Thainess, Doxzilla and Good TV, and sells documentaries to other buyers.

Our stories start with a question

Our team believes a good documentary begins with a question people want answered. Before a title, before the first frame, we try to say what the series asks. If we cannot, it is not ready to be named, and it may not be ready to shoot.

A clear title and question tell viewers what a story is about and make them want to know more. For a buyer choosing from a long list, a question that is easy to remember gets to the heart of the story quickly.

The stories we tell

We tell stories from two sides of Thailand. The first is nature and wildlife: animals and forests that audiences want to see. The second is Thailand's cities and heritage: the lives and memories hidden in places people walk past every day.

We work with several documentary production teams, each with its own strengths in subject and place. We match each story to the right team, and Next Step stays with it from the brief and script through to delivery.

Before the forest wakes, a call cuts through the mist. Villagers know at once that it is a peafowl. Many people picture the bright blue peafowl from far away, the symbol of India seen in palaces, processions and zoos. This voice belongs to the green peafowl, the graceful bird of Thailand, a living jewel still hidden from most of the world. In the forests of Southeast Asia lives a relative just as beautiful and often misunderstood. Tonight the forest is preparing to tell a story the world has almost never heard.

Explore the Galapagos Islands, the “natural laboratory” of evolution. Through their stories we see evolution at work and the importance of conservation. The Galapagos reveal the adaptability of nature and the enduring story of life on Earth.
